I don’t like to post flies that I haven’t fished. We want you to be extremely successful using our products, but there comes a point where you can look at a fly without fishing it and know it will be successful. This is that fly. This articulated jig Rainbow Smolt pattern is one I’ve been working on in anticipation of the coastal rivers opening in Washington State. Can’t wait to see you all bring this pattern to life on your local waters!
*We have since added a bit of MEGA Spawn Simi Seal - Polycheate to the top of the Senyos Laser Dub after Step 21.

Step 1: Place your hook of choice in the vise. For this fly I like the Owner SSW with Super Needle Point #6.
Step 2: Tie in Fish Hunter Marabou Dark Olive as the tail of the fly.
Step 3: Dub your thread with Spawn Simi Seal Silver/White.
Step 4: Wrap your dubbed thread with Spawn Simi Seal forward up just behind the eye of the hook.
Step 5: Take a small pinch of Spawn Simi Seal Salmon Smolt. Tie it in right behind the eye and veil it back.
Step 6: Whip finish and add a small layer of head cement or thin resin.
Step 7: Take a your 60 Degree Spawn Mirco Jig Shank and and add a light olive 4.6mm Mottled Tactical Slotted Tungsten Bead from Hareline.
Step 8: Attach the eye of the hook directly to the Micro Jig Shank.
Step 9: Take Lead Free .020 Wire and wrap it onto the shank. Push it into the slot of the bead. This will keep the bead secure on the neck of the shank.
Step 10: Tie down the shank to secure the connection and the lead free wraps.
Step 11: Tie in Spawn Simi Seal Smolt Belly and veil it back. This will be the start of the body of the fly.
Step 12: Veil back the Simi Seal and tie it down.
Step 13: Tie in a small pinch of Spawn Simi Seal White/Silver for the belly of the fly.
Step 14: Tie in another pinch of Spawn Simi Seal Salmon Smolt on the top of the fly.
Step 15: Take two Fl. Pink Goose Biots and tie them in right behind the bead.
Step 16: Tie in a small amount of UV Pink Ice dub to replicate the pink cheeks of the rainbow fry.
Step 17: Tie in another small pinch of Spawn Simi Seal Salmon Smolt on the top of the shank.
Step 18: Take Senyo’s Laser Dub to finish off the body profile of this fly. For the top, tie in Light Olive and veil it back.
Step 20: To finish the belly of the fly, tie in Senyos Laser Dub White and veil it back along the belly of the fly.
Step 21: Take the fly out of the vise and add your favorite Spawn Eyes! The last photo is of the fly when wet.
