Aisle guide

Feather types on this aisle

Name the feather type before you fill another drawer. This aisle holds the wide shelf: marabou, hackle, CDC, waterfowl, and specialty accents from Spawn Select and other brands.

Marabou

Soft, mobile fiber for tails, wings, and streamer movement.

Saddle / neck hackle

Dry-fly float and legs, or soft hackle wraps when the feather is webby enough. Match stem and fiber length to the hook.

CDC

Light, trap-air fiber for dry flies and emergers. Keep it clean; oil kills the loft.

Waterfowl

Wings, collars, soft hackles. Barred wood duck and similar packs when the pattern shows the feather.

Specialty

Ostrich herl, peacock, guinea, and other accents. Buy for the pattern, not to fill every empty bin.

Select vs the rest of this aisle

This page is the wide shelf. Spawn Select waterfowl (curated grading) lives on Fly Tying Feathers Select. Use Select when the fly shows the feather. Use this aisle when you need brand breadth or a specific SKU.

Spawn Super Select barred wood duck

When you need clean barring for wings and accents, start with our wood duck pack. More bench stock sits under Fly Tying Materials and Tails, Fins, Claws & More.

Common questions

Fly tying feathers FAQ

Natural vs dyed feathers?

Natural shows how the bird grew. Dyed keeps structure and gives a consistent color. Use natural when barring is the point. Use dyed when you need a specific shade across a batch.

How should I store feathers?

Dry, flat or loosely sleeved. Keep moths and moisture out. Crushed packs waste the tips you paid for.

Which feathers for soft hackles?

Soft, webby waterfowl. For barred accents, wood duck and teal-style fibers. Stiff dry-fly hackle is the wrong tool for a soft-hackle collar.

What is the difference between Feathers and Fly Tying Feathers (Select)?

Feathers is the full aisle (marabou, hackle, CDC, waterfowl, other brands). Fly Tying Feathers is the Select curated waterfowl hub. Keep both. Start on Select for graded soft hackle and wing packs. Stay here for the wide shelf.
